Newton Carriage House

The second phase of this Newton property’s comprehensive renovation started with the demolition of the existing, dilapidated single-car garage. In it’s place, the Client commissioned the design of an historically accurate two-bay carriage house with a second floor private exercise studio and bathroom. Construction commenced only after passing strict municipal zoning and historic commission design requirements. The rich materials palette consisted of a Vermont slate roof, copper flashings & gutters, historically accurate windows and exterior wood trim details. The ground level boasted a modern, high-efficient, wall-hung boiler and in-slab radiant tubing to melt snow and slush. The second floor trim details reference the 1880 period of the main house, while the exterior color scheme ties both structures together seamlessly.
